Christine has been an accredited and practising mediator for 5 years. She noticed that her mediations failed to settle if the parties became verbally emotional and hostile in the session. Like many mediators she believed that if the parties could not negotiate within the boundaries of calm and respectful conversation then mediation was probably not a suitable process for settling the dispute.

Christine attended a Dialogue Road Map training and it transformed the way she engaged with aggression in the session. Now, Christine is much more comfortable when the parties cannot contain themselves and she no longer needs to default to rules to keep control of the process.

Reflection

When people verbalise their anger in an aggressive way they are emotionally ‘bleeding’. The Dialogue Road Map is able to administer Emergency First Aid Empathy to stop the ‘bleeding’ and allow the healing to begin.
