Maestro Stephen Attard

Last week, friends and family celebrated the life of a true gentleman.

Stephen was a dedicated musician and man of faith. When I first started going to Gozo, I was interested in finding a pianist for an event. On asking around, it didn’t take long to find Stephen, since his name was everyone’s first recommendation, and Gozo being a small Island meant he was easy to track down.

I was struck by his compassion and care for all people. A gentle man who despite his own suffering, would always show kindness. And I was to discover that his desire to be helpful meant he was so happy to play at my event and engage in rehearsals, that it felt as if he was helping an old friend.

We had many conversations where I learned about the depth of his faith.

I discovered this quote which is the purpose of this sharing…

“I am strongly convinced that man, while embracing the ‘prose of life’, can rise above the mediocrity of the world and reach rich, fertile heights that may give existence a meaningful overview.”

(Stephen Attard, 2024)

Maria’s Midweek Mindfulness

There are some people in this world who model the traits of empathy, kindness, honour and compassion. They develop these traits from the depths of their own pain. Far from adopting victim status, they find healing and joy in service. Stephen was one of those people.
