Labour pains

Many people do not have the luxury of choice when it comes to work. By that, I mean that for them to survive in the game of mainstream society, they must take any job going for whatever pay is available, assuming the jobs are available in the first place, and if the people are ‘hireable’. Those of us that are fortunate enough to have carved out a career are wise to remember that inequality is the starting point for the way we live and work together, and a lot of what we call crime is the consequence of humans trying to balance the books in a system that is rigged. I am not condoning or conceding to injury, loss or harm perpetrated, but I am understanding that everything has a context and an accountability.

The idea of a meritocracy where everyone with skill and imagination may aspire to reach the highest level cannot work if the resources to learn skills and exercise imagination are not provided equally, and the healing to overcome the effects of trauma is not shared out as needed. These inequalities are the way it is, and it is unlikely, in the current trajectory, that things will change anytime soon.

This leaves us to our individual discretion, empathy and kindness to lead the most generous and merciful life we can manage to be a living demonstration of mercy and forgiveness, healing and natural medicine, and care and compassion to the extent that our resources permit.
