Getting free of fear
Very often in my work, I meet people who are in fear. Living in fear is disempowering especially when we allow it to control our thinking. Acting out of fear is less likely to bring outcomes that align us with joy.
I prefer to think of fear as a messenger. It’s a natural alarm system to let me know that I am out of alignment. It’s a great barometer. The first step is to meet my fear. Many of us are so used to covering up fear with anger or taking action that we never truly come to meet it. To meet and greet my fear is to notice when I am out of alignment, when I am acting or behaving in ways which are not harmonious, and to take a moment to reflect on the fear that is driving me.
This reflection usually leads to an Aha moment and, at that point, my options open up. The fear has done its job and I can say goodbye to it. Even in life and death moments I can be paralysed by my fear or I can align with the options that align me to joy and gratitude. I know that’s hard to hear and easy to say but it doesn’t make it any less true.
