Why I do what I do
In June 2005, I spent 15 days in Switzerland with 55 people from 22
countries in a social change experiment led by Marshall Rosenberg, creator
of Nonviolent Communication (NVC).
It was a life changing event and I continue to reap the rewards from the
richness of what was shared. It is what inspired the Dialogue Road Map.
On Facebook this week I saw a post quoting something Marshall had said
during one of his talks at that event:
“If I use Nonviolent Communication to liberate people to be less depressed,
to get along better with their family, but not teach them, at the same time,
to use their energy to rapidly transform systems in the world, then I am
part of the problem. I am essentially calming people down, making them
happier to live in the systems as they are, so I am using NVC as a
narcotic.”
— Marshall Rosenberg, Social Justice Retreat in Switzerland, June 2005
I took that message to heart and acted on it.
Maria’s Midweek Mindfulness
I continuously try to hold the balance between self-care and disrupter.
The Wednesday Whisper
Have you ever taken a stand on a social issue?
Would you be willing to send this out to anyone you think might be interested in getting a little dose of mindfulness each week?
