Live and let live….

If anything has stimulated sadness in me this last few months it is not the division I see on almost every current topic but the way many people choose to express it. Since humans have been alive, there has been differences of opinion. In these times, one of the effects of Covid Restrictions has been the polarization of responses expressed with absolute vitriol. So how do we ‘live and let live’?
Whether we are discussing climate change, pandemics or artificial intelligence we are expressing opinions about topics which could lead to human extinction so its little wonder that this might trigger panic. Now I am no expert on any of these topics in fact I’m probably under informed. What I can say with some confidence is that when I am at my most fearful or vulnerable, hiding behind anger, hostility or aggression towards others is the least likely way to bring about collaboration.
On one hand, how can I be tolerant when I see people creating injury, loss or harm? And on the other hand without tolerance how can I participate in a diverse society?
And this paradox reminds me to find balance in all things. And to find balance I need to step back and reflect.
Maria’s Midweek Mindfulness
This last few months I have been looking for balance in discussions about Covid Restrictions. I found peace in taking time to listen to all of my friends and peers and accepting all the different circumstances that means there is no one right answer.
